2009 Session:

Session Description – Targeting and Motivating the Latino Community

As a member of the Obama ’08 Media Team, James Aldrete was the lead creative and strategist for the campaign’s unprecedented Latino advertising efforts in the 2008 election — helping the nation’s first African American president garner over 67% of the Latino vote.  As President of his own political communications firm, Message Audience & Presentation, Aldrete has consulted members of Congress and progressive organizations, including teacher associations, unions, environmental groups and pro-choice organizations, on how to target, outreach and motivate Hispanics.  Understanding how to navigate the diversity among the Latino population — including national origin, language use, media preferences, and assimilation patterns — is just as critical to commercial success as it is to political success.
