Kathleen Zarsky's Bio

Kathy graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in architecture in 1994 and spent 12 years working in construction management and integrated design/build and joined the consulting world in January, 2008. Due to her background in architecture and building science, she is highly skilled at evaluating a broad spectrum of issues and has developed a keen ability to bridge knowledge networks. This has fostered highly collaborative environments and strong relationships with team members, the heart of sustainability in Kathy’s view. Her professional aspiration is to influence market adaption of sustainable and healthy communities and all the subsets thereof. Kathy makes it a priority to understand the broad range of issues that converge to bring about transformation, including policy, process, financing mechanisms, partnerships, means and methods for design and construction, transportation and infrastructure. Kathy has extensive facilitation experience, is a vegetated roof owner and researcher, has experience managing multiple LEED rating systems and working as a sustainability strategist for municipalities, non-profit and private sector clients. She has immersed herself in understanding BIM development, biomimicry principles and industrial ecology applications. Kathy’s decade long experience as a project manager has influenced her emphasis on heavy early research and developing effective tools and processes.
